History of minivation

Christopher Buckingham trades as a Sole Trader under the name minivation, here he recounts the story of how it began:

The idea behind minivation began in 2005 when I was working as an English teacher with Vodafone, Portugal.

In those early days I devised a simple sms quiz that acted as a reinforcement tool for the English lessons.

Not long after this came the first full set of blended m-learning exercises that stood alone and could be used for team building as well as help learners of English (whether mother tongue or not).

Textercise was born.

Textercise is a set of team building tasks that add impact and interest to your training or teaching environment.

Textercise under went many transformations until finally a version was distilled that looked great and worked beautifully.

But then another problem was identified. Most institutions would simply take Textercise and expect their staff and learners to simply adopt it with no pre-planning beyond what was provided with the booklet. At the same time it became apparent that more than an exercise book was needed.

More and more clients wanted to do more and more sophisticated things with the mobile technology they used.

In response I set out to build a set of booklets to aid my clients on their mobile journey.

This today is one of my biggest strengths, I am able to gain a deeper insight through my experience and then source solutions from many different mobile technology practitioners.

I love collaboration and find that some of the most creative solutions for some of the most demanding situations have been found at many, many levels of collaboration.

So this is minivation today, providing analysis and solutions to many different mobile needs in as many organisations.
